William Frederick Drew, fondly known as Bill, graced this world with vibrant spirit on December 11, 1947, in Albany, New York. He departed this life on August 25, 2024, leaving a legacy woven from hard work, devotion, and an everlasting love for family and music.
Bill’s childhood was shaped by his father’s Coast Guard career, splitting his time between Long Island and Seattle. He enjoyed beach outings and sailing on the Atlantic, while also embracing the lush greenery and serene waters of Puget Sound. Throughout life he enjoyed family vacations in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. These diverse coastal experiences fostered his love for the sea and appreciation for varied landscapes.
Bill’s greatest joys came from being a proud father and grandfather. He cherished the moments spent with his wife, Ann, and their daughters, Elizabeth Feibusch and Kendall Drew Meldrum, often reveling in family gatherings filled with laughter and warmth. His heart swelled with pride as he shared the achievements of his daughters, recounting their triumphs to anyone who would listen, proof of a father whose admiration knew no bounds. As a grandfather, he took great joy in connecting with his grandchildren during family gatherings and through FaceTime, forging bonds that transcended distance. George and Miryam Feibusch, along with Genevieve and Frederick Meldrum, were the lights of his life, and he delighted in every milestone.
In addition to his family life, Bill had a vibrant social circle, formed through years of engaging with others in the community. His pride in organizing concerts in the late 60s in Seattle, featuring iconic acts like The Byrds and Jefferson Airplane, was a testament to his passion for music. This love extended to his role as the stand-up bass player for the Rum Runners, further showcasing a creativity that effortlessly complemented his industrious nature. He also served in the United States Army Reserves during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life marked by commitment and sacrifice. This dedication served as a foundation for his work ethic and approach to life, instilling in him values that inspired those around him.
In his free time and throughout retirement, Bill was an avid golfer, a pastime that allowed him to network and reconnect with friends. His love for The Byrds also remained a constant thread in the tapestry of his life, echoing the carefree spirit of his youth.
Bill leaves behind his wife, Ann, daughters Elizabeth and Kendall, sons-in-law Carl and Sam, and four grandchildren, as well as his brother James and sisters Julianne, Mary Anne and Patricia Drew. He also carries the memories of his deceased family, including his devoted parents, George and Mary Drew, who shaped the man he became.
