Walter Alexander Gould

1967 — December 7, 2015

DELMAR - Walter Alexander Gould, 48, of Delmar, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2015. He was the loving father to Caitlyn and W. Patrick, and husband to Sarah. The pride he had in his family was undeniable and evident to anyone who spoke with him. Walter was determined to experience all that the world had to offer. When he wasn’t trying something new or helping a friend with a project, you would find him skiing, biking, hiking, motorcycling, fixing cars, snowmobiling or prepping for the next adventure by napping. Walter graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1986. His selfless nature drove him to many stops along his journey. He became a skilled chef, a firefighter, an EMT and a paramedic before he received a nursing degree from Hudson Valley Community College. Walter’s dedication to the medical profession was proven by his lengthy career with Albany Medical Center. He got to know his way around the hospital by starting out as a volunteer and ultimately found his calling in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. His skills and personality enabled him to manage some of the most challenging cases. Walter’s gentle way, comforting bedside manner and clinical expertise touched innumerable lives. One of Walter’s true loves was baking his famous chocolate chip cookies. The secret ingredient was the love that he put into making them. Whether he was selling them to raise money for one of his favorite causes or sharing them with coworkers and the families he cared for, he could never make enough. Walter treasured the time he volunteered for Double H Ranch, the NYS Emergency Medical Services for Children Advisory Committee, the NY State Police Summer Program, the Donna M. Crandall Foundation, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and being a “Shavee” for Saint Baldrick’s Foundation. Walter is survived by his parents Walter D. and Barbara Gould, brothers and sisters: Cynthia, Sheila, Laurie, Greg (Lucy), Peggy (Christian) Eynon, Christopher (Beth), Jonathan (Michele) and Jennifer (Nathan) Lobban; mother-in-law Jeanne Vogel, sister-in-law Alizabeth Rasmussen. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Katie (Tyson) Arnold, Aimee (Joe) Pryba, Alicia, Missy, Daniel, Jacob, Ian, Jackson, Gregory, Isabella, Lucas, Avery, Emerson, Zachary, Zane, Mason, and great-nieces: Kaylee, Natalee and Madelyn. Walter is preceded in death by his grandparents Mimi and Poppy Gould, Dr. Raymond and Adele Leddy and his nephew Alexander Gould. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 9:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl, Delmar. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at Applebee Funeral Home 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Burial will follow the funeral at Bethlehem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Albany Medical Center, 43 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY 12208 and/or the Double H Ranch at www.doublehranch.org.
