Selkirk - Shirley A. Lewis, age 87, entered into eternal life Thursday, December 8, 2022. Born in Ilion, NY she was the daughter of the late Howard and Anne (Seaver) Haman.
She attended West Schuyler School (Utica Free Academy) and graduated from UFA High School in 1952. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1956 and her Master’s Degree in 1959 from the NY State College for Teachers, now SUNY Albany, and was a math teacher at Central Park Jr. High School in Schenectady from 1956-1959.
Shirley joined the Berkshire Star Chapter #500 in December, 1958 and was a dual member of Onesquethaw Chapter #818. She was the Matron for Berkshire Star in 1963 and Onesquethaw in 1975, and ARS DDGM in 1965. She worked at Realty USA from 1966 to 1976 and she was the Junior Deputy for Needa Bah Triangle #98 in Albany from 1975 to 1978. She received her OES 50 year pin in 2008. She was a member of Van Rensselaer Star # 156 and a member of Palestine Star #167 at passing.
She was the beloved wife of 59 years to the late Alan C. Lewis; loving mother of Kim Renee Chambers (Brian), Tracie Ann Chase (Michael), and Aimee Elisabeth Lewis; cherished grandmother of Shane Chambers (Mariana Henriques), Casey Bailey (Marcus), Samantha Chambers, Matthias Chambers, Adam Schneider, Ryan Schneider and Kevin Chase; great grandmother of Chael Salusky, Kade Schneider and Oliver Schneider; sister of Earl Howard Haman (Carole) and Verna Jean Hyer (Glenn). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. Delmar. The Funeral Ritual of the Order of the Eastern Star will commence at 6:30pm. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Summer.
