Richard J. Everleth

Richard J. Everleth, a dedicated and loving family man, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 86, in Albany, NY. Born on July 27, 1939, Richard's life was marked by hard work, a deep responsibility to his family, and a passion for community service.

Richard devoted an impressive 38 years to the New York State Department of Transportation, working as a Civil Engineer in the divisions of Traffic Counting and Highway Maintenance. He also successfully ran his own Roto-Tilling business for years at nights and on weekends. His commitment to his professions reflected his hardworking nature, often working 60-70 hours a week to ensure every opportunity for his family while making time for the moments that mattered most to him.

A graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, Class of 1957, Richard then proceeded to complete Active Duty Training for the Army Reserve, along with a tour of service in the Army National Guard, which further exemplified his dedication to duty and service.

In addition to his professional achievements, Richard found joy in maintaining a three-acre garden in Glenmont, which led him to become a founding member of the Farmers' Market at the First United Methodist Church in Delmar. Richard also cherished spending quality time with his family, creating numerous memories during family vacations to Cape Cod, various amusement parks, and casinos along the East Coast. He was also an avid coin collector in his formative years.

His community spirit extended into youth sports, where he made significant contributions as a coach, member of the Board of Directors, and eventual President of Tri-Village Little League in Delmar, NY. Additionally, he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Member for Boy Scout Troop 58 in Elsmere, NY, and Boy Scout Troop 81 in Selkirk, NY.

After retiring in 1995, Richard enjoyed reconnecting with former coworkers and friends, sharing stories and laughter during weekly lunch outings. His legacy of hard work, commitment to his family, and contributions to the community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Marlene Everleth of Delmar, NY; son Darrin Everleth and daughter-in-law Jennifer Everleth of Selkirk, NY; son Todd Everleth of Delmar, NY; granddaughters Sabrina and Georgiana Everleth; and nieces Sue Conti of Brookline, MA, Gayle Wilcox of Williston, VT, and Carol Wilcox Schein of Waterbury Center, VT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Everleth and Ruth Heisner Everleth of New Baltimore, NY as well as his sister, Ann Everleth Wilcox Harwood of Essex Junction, VT.

The family will receive visitors on  Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar, NY 12054.

Funeral services will be 11:00am, Thursday October 9th, 2025 at Applebee Funeral Home.  

Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar
