Peter Rossi, beloved son of Dominick and Jennie Rossi, devoted husband, father, nephew, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 16th.
Peter was the husband of Margaret, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Their love story began during a blackout, when what started as a conversation for a few hours turned into a lifetime together. Their partnership was built on love, loyalty, and conversation, and it became the foundation of a close and devoted family.
The first of many strong women in his life was his mother, Jennie, followed by his Aunt Fran, who had a special, guiding presence in his life.He was the loving father of Kristin (Mike) and Peter (Virena), the proud “Bumpa” to Meaghan, Ryan, and Alex, a cherished brother to Dina and Dom, brother in law to Gail Marie. and a caring uncle to his nieces and nephews — Rebecca, Jennifer, Steven, Matthew, Kate, and Sara — always ready with a story, or a lesson.
Peter spent many years as an executive with GE, a career that allowed him to move his family along the East Coast, living in Georgia, Maryland, and finally settling in Albany, New York. Wherever life brought them, Peter’s focus was always on providing for and protecting his family.
He will be remembered most for his storytelling. Around the dinner table, written carefully in his books, or from behind the camera, his stories wove together generations. A loyal fan of the New York Giants and a long-suffering supporter of the New York Mets, he faithfully shared both the glories and the agonies of defeat with family through phone calls and texts. He shared tales of his family that made us laugh, sometimes made us cry, but always brought us closer together. Through his words, images, and actions, he reminded us where we came from and the strength of the family name.
Peter’s steady presence, deep love for his wife, pride in his children and grandchildren, and gift for storytelling will be missed beyond words. There is comfort in knowing he has now reunited with mom. We can only imagine he’s already sharing a story, keeping score, and watching over us all.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar on Monday, February 23rd at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Daughters of Sarah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
