It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Adams (Shaw), who departed this life on April 4, 2026, in Altamont, New York, the very day she celebrated her 75th birthday. Born on April 4, 1951, in Albany, New York, Patricia, known affectionately to family and friends as Polly, lived a life marked by unwavering dedication, love, and advocacy.
Patricia was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, where she met the love of her life and was married for 57 years. In 1983, she played an instrumental role in establishing Builder's Kitchens, Inc. While managing the complexities of Builder's Kitchens, Patricia faced her greatest personal challenge with unforgettable courage—when her daughter Ali was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. With tireless devotion, she ensured that Ali’s needs were met every single day, embodying the very essence of maternal love and strength.
Her commitment extended far beyond her immediate family. Patricia was a passionate advocate for children with disabilities and served on the board at the Center for Disability Services, where she was the driving force behind the creation of the “Ali Adams Fun Park” at the Langdon School. Thanks to her vision and tenacity, the park became a joyful haven where all children could play and thrive. Her proudest accomplishment was helping others through their struggles, a mission she embodied in every aspect of her life.
She was devoted wholeheartedly to her family, her energy and love boundless. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending cherished time with her grandbabies—watching their sports games, dance recitals, and school activities, nurturing each moment with love and pride.
Patricia is survived by those who loved her dearly: her husband, Richard Adams Sr.; her children, Bridgette McGowan (husband) Tom McGowan Jr., Richard Adams Jr., (fiancé) Dianne Francis; Ali Adams; her goddaughter, Sharan Johnson; her brother, James Shaw, (wife) Julie Shaw. She also leaves behind beloved grandchildren; Adam McGowan, Jackson Adams, Reesa McGowan, Jaylen Johnson, and Julia Francis, who will carry forward her legacy of love and joy. Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Shaw, her mother Marion Gallup Shaw and her brother, Joseph Shaw.
She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and eternally cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. May Patricia Ann Adams rest in peace, reunited with those she loved and who now watch over her.
A Mass to celebrate Patricia's life will be held on Friday, April 17 at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Center for Disabilities Services Adult Day Program.
