Nancy J. Higgins

Nancy Jean Higgins, beloved wife, died on September 26, 2026 at the age of 83 in Albany, New York.

Born February 10, 1943 in the City of Melrose, Massachusetts to Bernard C. Hurd and Gertrude Jean Hurd, she grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from Wakefield High School, later earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Nancy married Richard J. Higgins on October 18, 1992 and together they made their home in Delmar, New York. She spent 30 years with New York State Department of Health as a Senior Laboratory Technician. Among her duties, she ran the State wide Proficiency Testing Program in Mycology.

Outside of work, Nancy was known for numerous home improvement projects including an extensive Hosta garden, golf, and a love of cats and reading. Nancy enjoyed collecting Department 56 Snow Village pieces, creating large displays each Christmas. She also served as a Board Member of the WoodGate I condominium community for several years and was a past member of Normanside Country Club.

She is survived by her husband Richard, numerous nieces and a nephew, and was preceded in death by her parents Bernard C. Hurd and Gertrude Jean Hurd.
