Michael W. Rooney of Delmar and Venice, Florida passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021 in Venice, FL. Michael was born on March 25, 1946 in Hornell, NY to the late William L. Rooney and Margaret Karl Rooney. He is also predeceased by his sister Sarah Ann “Sally” Rooney. He is survived by his fiancé and loving companion/caretaker, Ann Marie Mancuso, his brother James K. (Nancy), his nephews Kevin P., Derek S. (Ellen), and their families and his favorite companion Bullet. He is also survived by his (adopted son), Adam Weisburgh and Ann Marie Mancuso’s children/grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. Michael graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1964 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at John Carroll University in 1968. Michael retired after 35+ years from the NYS Office of General Services in 2003 as Tenant Safety Director. Michael’s passions ranged from boating, classic cars, drag racing, snowmobiling, cruising, traveling to Ireland, Italy, and watching his favorite baseball team, the Yankees. He was a lifetime member of 39 years and was twice past commodore at Ravena Coeymans Yacht Club. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Applebee Funeral Home, Delmar, NY from 3 to 6 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, NY at 10 AM. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont NY. Donations can be made in the memory of Michael at: Make A Wish Northeast NY, 3 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205 and/or Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
