SLINGERLANDS, NY - Mary (Richerzhagen) Meier, 83, of Slingerlands passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2011. Born in Birmingham, Alabama to Gereon and Elizabeth (Rohde) Richerzhagen, Mary was a graduate of Ensley High School in Birmingham. She worked as a dental hygienist and lived in Delaware for many years, residing in Wilmington (Hyde Park), Newark, and Lewes. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin in Potter County, Pennsylvania and vacationing in Chincoteague, Virginia. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St. John's Holy Angels Parish in Newark, DE and the Parish of Mater Christi in Albany, NY. Her greatest accomplishment was that she was a devoted wife to her husband, Henry, the best mother in the world and thrived on her grandchildren and their lives. She loved animals, especially her dog, Ginger. Mary is known for "never wanting to be a bother" and was generous with her love and time. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Henry C. Meier; her children, Elizabeth Osborne (Joseph Osborne) of Roanoke, VA, Henry C. Meier, Jr. (Nancy Gruber Meier) of Castle Rock, CO, Margaret Thompson of Gainesville, FL, Carol Meier (Haywood Schmidt) of Winchester, MA, Jacqueline Czub (Jim Czub) of Schaghticoke, NY and Steven Meier (Christina Watson Meier) of Latham, NY; eighteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; her sister, Augusta Black of Huntsville, AL; her brother-in-law Richard Meier of Macungie, PA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Karl Richerzhagen. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 3 to 6 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Monday at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., Albany. Interment will be held 9 am Tuesday at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1 Jeanne Jugan La., Latham, NY 12110.
