Mary Bedrosian

1927 — June 16, 2012

DELMAR - Mary ("Candy") Canfield Bedrosian of Delmar, beloved wife of Dr. Levon Bedrosian, passed away peacefully at home on June 16 after a brief illness. She was 84. Mary graduated from Columbia High School in 1945 in the first class to graduate from the new school. She received her RN degree from Hartwick College in 1948 and worked as an obstetrics nurse for most of her adult life. Mary was evening charge nurse in the newborn nursery at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. Determined to beat her children to a bachelor's degree, she attended Russell Sage College Evening Division as an adult, receiving a B.A. in Economics in 1971. After raising her children, she worked as an obstetrics nurse in the Bedrosian and Dropkin practice. She retired at age 83 from the Dropkin and Costello practice. Mary was an avid golfer and bridge player, and a long-time member of Normanside Country Club, where she was the first female on the Board of Directors. She worked hard at PT and OT to recover from a stroke in 2011, regaining full use of her left leg and walking without the aid of a cane. She always accepted criticism with a smile by saying, "Thank you, but no." Her late father, Julian K. Canfield, was a disabled veteran of World War I, having been wounded in France. Her brother, William Edward Canfield, was shot down and killed flying his B-26 bomber over France in World War II. She is survived by her husband, Levon; sons Gary Bedrosian of Chautauqua, NY, and Richard Bedrosian of Delmar; Gary's wife Emogene Bedrosian, grandsons Gregory Bedrosian, Geoffrey Bedrosian, and Gary Edward Bedrosian; Gregory's wife Tracy Bedrosian; and great-granddaughter Leah Bedrosian. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A memorial service will be held 11 am Tuesday at the Delmar Reformed Church, 386 Delaware Ave., Delmar. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Albany, NY 12211 or the Albany Medical College Alumni Association's Bedrosian Scholarship Fund, 47 New Scotland Ave., MC-5, Albany, NY 12208-3412.
