Mark Brian Kovall

November 24, 1951 — July 5, 2025

Glenmont

Mark Brian Kovall, 73, of Glenmont, New York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Born on November 24, 1951, in the Bronx, Mark lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his community, and the many people fortunate enough to know him.

A proud graduate of Drake University, Mark earned his degree in Business Administration in 1973 — the same year he began his 52-year commitment as a volunteer firefighter. He served in departments across Rockland, Orange, and Albany Counties, most recently Elsmere Fire Co. Mark dedicated much of his life to protecting others with courage and compassion.

In addition to his service as a firefighter, Mark also worked for many years with the United States Postal Service. He was a reliable and hardworking presence, known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

Above all, Mark was a family man. Married to the love of his life, Judy, for 46 years, the two built a strong and loving home together. They raised three children: Ann (Tom) Martorana, Karen Kovall (Brad), and Michael (Michelle) Kovall. Mark was a devoted and proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, all of whom he adored beyond words.

Mark was known for his warm personality, quick wit, and ability to make friends wherever he went. He had a true gift for conversation and brought joy to everyone around him. While he gave generously of his time to the community, his greatest commitment was always to his family. Providing for them, supporting them, and being there in every way possible was the center of his life.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 10 from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday July 11 at the funeral home followed by a procession to the Elsmere Fire House on Poplar Dr., Delmar for the final call. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow at the Elsmere Fire House.
