Lois Ann Koch

Lois Ann Koch (nee Grezel), age 89, passed peacefully on August 8, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York, following a brief illness.

Earning a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Connecticut, a Master of Education degree at Eastern Connecticut State University, and a 6th year certification at UConn, Lois was an elementary school teacher and principal in the Norwich Ct public school system. She and her loving husband James “Jim” were avid travelers and lover of nature. They were lead parties in the founding of the Potapaug Audubon Society on the Connecticut shoreline. Jim predeceased her in 2018. She resided in Delmar, New York, previously living in Esperance, New York, Lyme, and Norwich, Connecticut.

Lois is survived by a devoted family who will miss her dearly, including her sons, Michael Koch and his partner Elizabeth Seale, and Paul Koch and his wife Dianna. She was the cherished “Grammy” of Noah and Liam Koch, and is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff of McCauley 4 at St. Peter’s Hospital for their exceptional care, kindness, and positivity during her final days.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, New York. A brief memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 11:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lois’s memory to Jamestown Discovery or the Nature Conservancy. Flowers are also welcome for the service.
