Julia "Vera" Peek, aged 89, passed away on Tuesday July 7th, 2026 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Harbour View, County Cork, Ireland to the late John and Ellen (Healy) Peek on July 27th, 1936. In 1954, Vera moved to Albany, NY with her father and began her life in America. Vera joined the Young Adult Catholic League, where she met her husband Nicholas Peek. Nicholas and Vera got married in 1960 and were married for 55 years. She worked at the Bethlehem Central School District as the head of payroll for 20 years. In more recent years, Vera volunteered at the Capital City Rescue Mission where she helped with the quarterly newsletters, sewed to repair sheets, and served meals for the homeless. She enjoyed cooking, puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Vera was predeceased in death by her beloved husband Nicholas Peek (2015). She is survived by her brother Cornelius "Finbar" Cleary; her three children, Mark (Sally) Peek of Griffin, GA, Brian (Kim) Peek of Albany, NY and daughter Sheila (John) Justice of Loudonville, NY; and her eight grandchildren, Anthony (Megan) Peek, Bobby (Andi) Peek, Sara (Sean) Bryce, Emily Peek, Nicolaas (Megan) Justice, Julianne Justice, Madison Peek, and Caitlin Justice.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar on Wednesday, July 15th. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 16th at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Interment at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont will immediately follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Capital City Rescue Mission at 259 S Pearl St, Albany, NY 12202.
