DELMAR - Josephine Stevens, 82, of Delmar passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation in Great Barrington, MA. Born in Munich, Germany on March 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Maria (Kammermeier) Dechant. She came to this country in the mid 1950's and worked for many years as an accountant and auditor for Albany International in Menands. Jo will be remembered for her love of animals and dancing, especially at Oktoberfests. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking German food for her friends. Jo loved playing cards and going to racino. She had many hobbies that kept her active including canoeing, hiking, bicycling and bowling. She loved to travel, whether it be through day trips taking in the sights within our local region or travelling abroad, which included trips to Italy, Spain, France, Amsterdam, Poland, Russia, Hawaii and return visits to her native Germany. Jo was always thinking of others and enjoyed volunteering at Albany Memorial Hospital and the Colonie Elks. She was a very dear and helpful friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Jo was predeceased by her husband, Edward McKernon Stevens, a sister Hildegard Dechant and close friend, Dr. Edward V. Wilkus. She is survived by a brother, Herbert Dechant (Rita) of Germany, many dear, dear friends as well as her sweetheart and caregiver, Ronald Frinks. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass on Friday, November 15th at 9:30 am in the Chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar and are also encouraged to bring a photo or a story to share. Rather than sending flowers, those who wish may send a remembrance in her name to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 or the Alzheimer's Association, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
