James S. Moran, 91, known as Jim to all, entered into eternal life on July 16, in his long-time residence of Delmar, N.Y. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Maureen. Jim is survived by his loving wife Patricia Switzer Moran, whom he married in 2020, his cherished four children, Noël (Dan), Peter, Jim (Franziska), Mike (Sara) and 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by 5 devoted stepchildren, their spouses, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.
Jim was born July 2,1935 in Bayonne, New Jersey to Margaret Sibbald and Joseph Leo Moran and spent most of his youth in Bayonne and then Elizabeth, New Jersey. Jim was a chemical engineer spending most of his career at NYS EnCon. He served during the Korean War effort but never served overseas. He was an avid fisherman, but his true passion was blacksmithing. Jim was a founding member of the Capital District Blacksmithing Association and could be found at “Pat’s forge” working or teaching others about blacksmithing.
Jim relished his maternal family ties to Ireland and visited as often as he could—with his children, grandchildren, and finally with his wife Patricia. Back stateside, this led to the formation of “the Guinness Police” who “inspected” Capital District pubs to make sure their “pour” was up to snuff. Jim was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and enjoyed serving in whatever way he could, from Eucharistic minister to decades of handyman work.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 23 from 4 to 6 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. A funeral mass will be celebrated on July 24 at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas Church, St. Thomas School or a charity of your choice.
