James P. Bloomingdale

January 26, 1951 — September 20, 2025

Delmar

James “Jim” Bloomingdale, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Delmar Center Rehabilitation Home after a brief battle with cancer.

Born on January 26, 1951, in Troy, NY, Jim was the son of the late Fredrick and Audrey (White) Bloomingdale. He was a proud graduate of Catholic High and went on to earn his degree from Siena College where he created lifelong friendships with "the wicks" which he maintained for the rest of his life.

Jim dedicated almost 35 years of service to New York State, most of which were spent at the Department of Correctional Services before he retired in 2010. Throughout his career, he formed countless friendships and often spoke fondly of his colleagues during his retirement years. In both his professional and personal life, Jim was known for his outgoing and fun-loving personality. He brought warmth and laughter wherever he went and was happiest when surrounded by friends and family.

A passionate cook, Jim especially loved making and sharing his homemade pizza—a tradition that brought joy to many. Jim also loved photography. He had a keen eye for capturing beautiful moments and places, often turning them into framed gifts for the people he cared about most. His photographs were more than images; they were personal expressions of love and connection, treasured by all who received them.

Jim was a devoted sports fan who rarely missed a Mets or Giants game and loved attending Siena basketball games in support of his alma mater. Jim also enjoyed spending time on the golf course. Golf was another way he connected with others and shared his upbeat, easygoing spirit.

Several years ago, Jim fulfilled a long-held dream by purchasing a home in Florida, where he spent his winters. He loved the warm weather, the laid-back pace of life, and especially being near the beach. Whether walking along the shore, soaking up the sun, or simply relaxing by the pool with a beer in his hand, his time in Florida brought him peace and joy. He made many special friends there and will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his loving partner, Lynne Sanchez; his sister Lynn Nelson and her husband Robert, along with their children Christopher and Danny; his daughter Courtney; his son Matthew, Matthew’s wife Jennifer, and their three children—Ryan, Tyler, and Jackson. Jim was also "bonus” Dad and Grandpa to Steven and Andrea Sanchez, their daughters Natalie, Cassidy and Mackenzie and Jessica and Joe Ponessi and their daughter Aspyn. He also leaves behind many relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.

Jim will be remembered for his generous spirit, his contagious smile, and the joy he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 28 from 2 to 4 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar followed by a service at 4 pm. Immediately following the service, all are invited to join the family at Martel’s Restaurant at Capital Hills Golf Course, 65 O’Neil Rd., Albany, NY 12208.
