Jack A. Bailey, Sr.

Jack Bailey, Sr (Glenmont, NY) - It is with profound sorrow that we announce, our husband, father and papa, “Big Jack”, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving wife and children on September 25, 2026.

Born on December 22, 1946, to the late Florence and Kenneth Bailey, he spent his childhood raised in Voorheesville, NY with his brothers, the late Kenny and Ronnie Bailey. After graduating from Voorheesville High School, Jack continued on to SUNY Brockport graduating with his degree in elementary education.

Jack went onto marry the love of his life, Linda, and spent the majority of his teaching career at Clarksville Elementary in the Bethlehem School District. Towards the end of this career, he was proud to have taught generations of families, often finding himself with the children of students he had once taught in the past.

Jack was also proud to be a volunteer firefighter with the Selkirk Fire Company #2 for over 4 decades where he held terms as the President, Commissioner, 1st Lieutenant Fire Police, and Co-Chair of the Annual Flea Market.

In his retirement he joined PJ’s Estate Sales with Joe, Paul and Phyllis Vandemark. You may have seen their infamous black and white signs around the Capital Region and known you were about to find a deal.

Though all of those accomplishments were important to him, there was nothing he was prouder of than his beautiful family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda (Sterling) Bailey and his 6 children, Jack (Kelli) Bailey, Jason (Sebastian) Bailey, Tanya (Christopher) Balfoort, Tracy (Brian) Hahn, Tricia (Peter Wolfgang) Helmedach, and Jared (Dominique) Bailey. He is also survived by his greatest source of pride, his 7 grandchildren, Lauren (Kase), Evelyn, Jared Jr., Jackson, Brooke, Hailey, and Weston and 3 great grandchildren, Kasyn, Harbor and Renlli.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Khiangte and her team at Pulmonary and Critical Care Services for the many years of expert care they provided. We are also eternally grateful to the Step Down, 5 McAuley, Palliative Care and Hospice teams at St. Peter’s for their compassionate and thorough care prior to his passing.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, Oct 2 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery.
