At age 82, Henry C. Weisheit, Jr. passed away peacefully at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home on February 26, 2026 after a long 5-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Henry was a lifelong resident of Selkirk and was the eldest son of Henry Sr, a local veterinarian and Edna Patterson Weisheit. His parents pre-deceased him.
Known to his friends and family as “Hank”, he was a graduate of Albany Academy, SUNY Cobleskill and Cornell University. He subsequently worked for the IRS for 34 years as a compliance officer. He received many commendations from the customers that he served during that time.
Hank spent his leisure time as a devoted pet parent to cats Mitzi, Trixie and Shadow. He was the proud uncle to David Olenick, Lianne (Jason) Lohraseb and Matthew Weisheit. He faithfully attended school concerts and sporting events. He often would accompany them to River Rats and Valley Cats games.
Hank was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem where he served on the Consistory and many committees.
Hank is survived by his sister Dianne (Lou) Olenick of New York City, his brother Robert (Deborah) Weisheit of Selkirk and his sister Kathy (Jerre) Griffin of San Antonio. He is also survived by step-nephews Ian and Max Griffin of Texas.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem at 11 a.m. followed by interment at the Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will precede the funeral from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Henry C. Weisheit, Jr. to the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, 38 Church Rd., Selkirk, NY 12158 or the Hudson-Mohawk Humane Society.
