CLARKSVILLE - Gary Eugene VanAlstyne, born on November 25, 1959, in Catskill, NY, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, in Albany, NY. He is remembered fondly as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose impact on those around him was profound.
Gary had a fulfilling career as a tractor trailer driver for the Golub Corporation. He was also a significant part of Mac-Son Industrial Services, Inc., where he cultivated deep respect and admiration for his colleagues. He held a special place in his heart for the employees and the family extends their gratitude to Noreen Berenger for her support.
In addition to his professional life, Gary was an avid lover of auto racing, particularly at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway. He cherished the camaraderie of his racing family and drew inspiration from notable drivers such as Scott Duell, Taylor LaPlante and Ron Delease and dedicated race family Rick and Wayne Oliver, Alex Comins and Alicia Hughes.
Gary leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife Patricia Rose (McMillen) VanAlstyne, his daughter Crystal Martin (Jon), his son Alan VanAlstyne (Josie), his grandchildren Ava Martin, A.J. VanAlstyne, Jonathan Martin, and Abby VanAlstyne. Gary is also survived by his mother Sandra VanAlstyne, brothers Dean VanAlstyne (Patty), Larry VanAlstyne (Gail), Richard VanAlstyne, Gene VanAlstyne, and sisters Peggy Lavazzo (John), Sandra McMillen (Kevin) and Rose VanAlstyne.
Gary had close relationships with his in-laws, Barbara Loveday, Roger McMillen (Nancy), Gail VanAlstyne (Larry), Mark McMillen (Joelle) and Jim Shellenberger (Eileen) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews whom he adored.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Eugene VanAlstyne (Rose) and his in-laws, Earl and Audrey McMillen. He was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law Earl McMillen (Sheila), Dean McMillen, Kevin McMillen (Sandy) and sister-in-law Eileen Shellenberger (Jim).
Services for Gary will be held privately at the family's convenience.
Gary's legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion will be carried forward by his family and all who knew him. His passion for life and unwavering support for those he loved will always be remembered.
