Fay E. Lewis, née Mickel, born on October 8, 1935, in Montour Falls, NY, peacefully passed away on May 22, 2026, in Delmar, NY, surrounded by the love of her family. Fay's life was a testament to kindness, steadfast faith, and a deep devotion to those she cherished most.

For twenty-five years, Fay dedicated her professional life to the Bethlehem Public Library, contributing her talents across several departments. Her tireless efforts were instrumental in establishing the library’s Union, a legacy that continues to benefit her colleagues today. She approached her work with the same gentle grace and compassion that touched all who knew her.

Born the daughter of Stanford and Ruth Mickel, Fay was raised in the Baptist faith before being received and confirmed at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church—a spiritual journey reflective of her open heart and enduring faith. Her involvement in her community was expansive; she took proud part in the prayer shawl ministry, St. Teresa of Avila, Daughters of the King, and was a devoted supporter of both the Loaves and Fishes Ministry and the Haiti Ministry. These ministries were close to her heart, underscoring a lifelong commitment to serving others with love and generosity.

Fay’s gentle spirit shone brightly through her sweet smile, her loving kindness, and the compassionate way she listened to those around her. Those who knew her recall a wonderful sense of humor interwoven with her strong faith, creating an aura of warmth and comfort. She found joy in the arts, reading, and gardening, and was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, crafting wedding gowns and clothes with meticulous care. Her collections of Santas, birds, and frogs brought an added sparkle to her home, mirroring her joyful appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Above all, Fay treasured her family. She took immense delight in spending time with them, especially at the lake—a place where many fond memories were made. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 70 years, Eugene Lewis, and their children Jennifer King, Stephanie Mojallali and her husband Darius, Michael Lewis and his wife Maria, Elizabeth Mosier and her husband Kevin, and Melissa Allyn and her husband Mark. Fay’s legacy is further enriched by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who carry forward her spirit of love and kindness.

Fay was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Stanford and Ruth Mickel, and her sister Shirley Callahan and brother-in-law Jack. Her passing, due to the advanced stages of dementia, was met with grace and surrounded by those she held dearest.

Fay E. Lewis leaves behind a world made better by her presence—a gentle soul who embraced life fully and loved deeply. Though she will be profoundly missed, the love she sowed in her family and community will continue to bloom in their hearts forever.
