Ethel R. Duchna (“Sis”) is the daughter of the late Harry O. Gochee, Sr. and Anna Friebel Gochee. Born in Albany, Ethel was a lifelong area resident. Ethel was married to the late Joseph A. Duchna, Sr. for 32 years until his death in 1992.
Ethel worked for the New York Telephone Co. for several years prior to starting their family. She later worked at the family businesses, Shady Harbor Marina and Gochee’s Garage and Auto Sales where she was a distinct presence into her nineties. Later in life she moved to The Beverwyck where she developed a community with new and old friends.
Ethel was predeceased by her late brother Harry O. Gochee, Jr. She is survived by her children, Joseph A. Duchna, Jr. and Mary Ann Duchna-Savrin (Daniel) and her sister Dorothy Gochee of Delmar and her two grandchildren, Lauren Savrin and Michael Savrin.
She was a loving aunt to Barbara Samuels, Harry O. Gochee III (Ann), Barbara Brice (Michael), a wonderful great-aunt to Rebecca Hazelden-Brice (Colin), Harry O. Gochee IV and Benjamin Gochee and great-great-aunt to Katya Hazelden-Brice.
The family would like to thank her team of caregivers for their compassionate care of Ethel.
Private funeral services will be held at the family’s convenience.
