Elwood Vadney

GLENMONT – Elwood Vadney, 101, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at home with his family at his side.
Elwood was born in Feura Bush on April 1, 1916, the son of the late Howard and Amy (Johnson) Vadney. He attended elementary school in the little one room school house which is presently the library located on the property of the Jerusalem Reformed Church, Feura Bush. His high school years were spent at the Ravena Coeymans Selkirk school district. Following high school he attended and graduated from Albany Business College. He was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal and from there he was drafted into the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy during WW II from February 1943 until March 1946. During that time he was deployed to New Guinea and Iceland.
On October 4, 1947 he married his wife Mary in the parsonage of Jerusalem Reformed Church and together they had two children, a son Glenn and a daughter Donna. He was employed by the Feura Bush Post Office as a mail carrier in the area from 1954 through 1980. During his lifetime he has productively been employed not only by the Post Office but also by other businesses, i.e., Rothaupt's Garage and Callanan Industries, Inc. Elwood was a member of Normanside Country Club. He especially enjoyed playing golf and demonstrated great skill by achieving 2 holes in one.
In addition to his parents, Elwood was predeceased by his wife, Mary; daughter, Donna Anderson; and brothers, Howard, Earl and Roy Vadney.
Survivors include his son, Glenn (Michele) Vadney; son-in-law, David Anderson; grandchildren, Jill (Dave) Sperry and Rachel (Pierre) Alric; great grandchildren, Louie, Charlie and Vivienne Alric; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, January 25th from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held on Friday January 26th at 11 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery, Feura Bush in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Jerusalem Reformed Church.
