Elaine Richey Parker 99 of Frederick, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Somerford Assisted Living.
Born on July 15, 1925 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of James Richey and Jane Cox Richey.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 67 years, Russell L. Parker, her son Douglas Parker, and her twin brother Robert Richey. She is survived by her daughter Debra Parker Weldon and husband David, her granddaughters Amy Weldon Jenkins (Langdon), Arin Weldon Goddard (Robert), Corrie Weldon Eby (James), and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Rita Richey.
Elaine worked for the State of New York while her husband attended college on the GI Bill after WWII. Once their children were born, she was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. She and her husband were longtime active members of Delmar United Methodist Church and especially liked working all year on the Church Fall Festival.
Hospitality and care giving were Elaine’s special gifts. We all enjoyed her wonderful cooking and baking. She often took meals to friends and family and took care of several of her elderly family members. She also loved to garden. Her rock garden was a sight to behold as were her window boxes and their vegetable garden.
The couple moved from Delmar, NY to Frederick, MD in 2012 to be close to their daughter. In 2017 after the death of her husband, Elaine moved to Somerford Assisted Living in Frederick, MD and remained there until her passing.
The family wants to thank all of the angels at Somerford who took such good care of her these last 7 years. She always found the good in everyone and we will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD on Monday, September 23rd. Calling hours will be from 5-7 pm and a Celebration of Life service at 7pm. Interment will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in Delmar, NY on _Friday, Sept 27, 2024 at 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, www.frederickhealthhospice.org. or to a charity of your choice.
