Dorothy Ennis

1918 — March 22, 2011

DELMAR - Dorothy Alsid Ennis, of Delmar, died on Tuesday March 22, 2011 at the age of 92. Born in Catskill, NY, she was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Cobb Alsid, who had resided in Saugerties, NY. Dorothy was the wife of the late John V. Ennis, both of whom worked for the New York Telephone Co. and had met at a "Ma Bell" picnic. John would still recall seeing her for the first time at that picnic and said "Who is that beautiful woman? I want to meet her." Dottie and John married in January of 1949. Dorothy was loved and respected by everyone she met. She was very social, and always had a smile on her face when greeting anyone. She was an avid reader, gardener, seamstress, and an excellent cook. She loved being outside, enjoying the day and especially loved the snow fall. She lived her life with grace and dignity, traits which will be missed in our lives. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her older brother, Buddy, and two sisters, Betty Brown and Joan Kiernan. Dottie was the mother of John V. Ennis (Jill) of Latham, Joan Ennis Coffey (Stephen) of Slingerlands, Charles Ennis of Wappingers Falls, and Dorothy's daughter, Susan Mullarkey (Neil) of Feura Bush. Her grandchildren included: John and Dan Ennis; Quinn and Ian Coffey; Steven Mullarkey; and Neil, Meghan, Michael and Katie Mullarkey. Great grandchildren, Jacob and Sarah, are the children of Steven and Erin Mullarkey. Joan Coffey and John Ennis wish to thank the staff of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for keeping Mom comfortable and happy. She enjoyed the "girls" visiting her room - nurses and staff loved to take care of her because she was so nice to them. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 6 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held 10 am Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make donations in memory of Dorothy's grandson, Quinn Ennis Coffey, to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Duchenne's Research, 1 Marcus Blvd. #203, Albany, NY 12205.
