Donald J. Maier

GLENMONT, NY – Donald J. Maier, age 90, of Glenmont, NY, formerly of Newfield, NY died Monday, July 23, 2018. Born on March 14, 1928 in Pleasantville, NY to Stephen and Mary (Gardner) Maier, he proudly served in the US Navy at the end of World War II. Married in 1947 to Margaret Drader, Don was a devoted husband and father. He worked many years for the U.S. Post Office in Ithaca and Oneonta, NY and Claremore, OK. Don enjoyed golf, woodworking, painting and gardening in his retirement. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors. Predeceased by his son, James and daughter-in-law, Beverly, son in law, Lawrence Ward and by a brother Stephen Maier, Don is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margaret, his sons, Daniel (Joanne) and Thomas (Mary) and his daughters, Donna Maier and Brenda Ward. He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia (George) Rod and Geri Botyrius and by a brother, John (Maureen) Maier, as well as his beloved grandchildren Michelle, Ben, Brennan, Aaron, Charlotte, Craig and Jessie, 26 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held locally at the convenience of the family.
