Dennis DiMuria, 75, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at his home following an 18-year battle with Parkinsons disease. He was born in Albany, NY on May 14, 1950, to Patrick and Mary (Giordano) DiMuria.
He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and earned a BA from Siena College and a Master of Social Work from SUNY Albany. He began his career at Albany County Dept. of Social Services, was a grant writer for the City of Albany and began a long career at the NYS Dept. of Health where he became the Director of Medicaid. Throughout his work, advocating for those in need was at the forefront and he was loved by all who worked with him.
Dennis’ priority was always his family, and he coached his children’s baseball, basketball and softball teams, taught religion classes at St Thomas, and never missed his children’s concerts, school activities, or sporting events. As his grandchildren grew and the Parkinson’s progressed, he continued to find ways to follow their teams and activities. He was an avid runner and sports enthusiast. He was a fan of the NY Mets and the NY Jets, but Siena Basketball came first. He never missed a basketball game and enjoyed solving the team’s struggles with his college buddies. He had a great love for roller coasters and other theme park rides, often dragging his children along, travelling and cruises.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patricia DiMuria and cousin, Joanne Fusco. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan Hart DiMuria, son Christopher (Deanna) DiMuria and children Nicolas, AJ and Amalia of Rye NY, son Adam (Trista) DiMuria, son Frank of Whittier CA and daughter Ashlee (Patrick) Bickert and son Hudson and daughter Ellie of Payson AZ, daughter Emily DiMuria of Guilderland NY and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Constance and Donald Schmitt and niece, Laura (Evan) Davies and children Parker, Taya, and hunter, and Nephew, Michael Schmitt. He is also survived by his cousins Vincent, Frank and Marie Scovello and their families and Maria (Gary) Glatter, Charles (Sarah) Giordano, Jean (Mark) Tanenbaum, Dominick Fusco, and Paul (Lauren) Giordano and their families.
His family would like to thank his many friends who supported him with their visits, love and support, and Community Hospice as he battled Parkinsons. A special thank you is extended to Nicole and Emily for their love and exceptional care as his disease progressed.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 19 from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 am Friday, February 20 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar.
