David Mehr, 97, was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Samuel and Regina (Rae) Mehr. He died of natural causes October 30, 2026 in Albany, New York (with family at his bedside). He is predeceased by his beloved wife Eileen, who passed away in 2019. They were married for 64 years and were residents of Litchfield, Connecticut, until 2017. He most recently lived with his daughter Sherry Towne, in Delmar, New York.
Dave enjoyed visiting his loving family and friends, traveling unassisted to Pennsylvania and to the Phoenix area in the winter to visit his long-time friend Sylvia Strobach. He also enjoyed listening to and viewing performances by the Metropolitan Opera.
Dave attended Stuyvesant High School in Brooklyn with a keen affinity for math and numbers. He used this facility to run numbers for some shady local acquaintances, before being drafted into the US Army for service during the Korean War. Just prior to his being drafted, he met Eileen Lazarus, who lied about her age, being 6 years his junior. After serving at a large military base in Japan, he returned home to marry and begin a career in industrial supply. Beginning as a stocking clerk, Dave eventually became the owner of ARCY Manufacturing in New York City.
His family settled in Wheatley Heights, New York, in 1962 where he and Eileen raised three children. After living there for 27 years, they moved to Nyack, New York; Pawling, New York; and Litchfield. In his retirement years, Dave and Eileen enjoyed splitting time in Hollywood, Florida, before buying a residence there.
David’s memory will be treasured by his immediate survivors, including daughter Sherry Towne of Delmar, New York; sons Stanton and his wife Sandra of Newtown, Pennsylvania; William and his wife Margaret of Newburgh, New York. He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah, Jessica, Grace, Jason, Heather, Jonathan, and Stephen, and 8 great grandchildren. He is also predeceased by his brother Norman.
