Daniel P. Long (4/26/1966- 11/13/2025) passed away on November 13, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dan “King D” was born and raised in Nanuet, New York. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph Long and Winifred Long, his brother John Long (Liz) and his nephew Ryan Long. He is survived by his siblings Jo-Ann Long (Jim Georgia), Timothy Long, Joseph Long II (Barbara), Winifred Long Slawson and Mary Long. He is also survived by his nephews Ethan Long (Lucy), Leland Slawson (Jo Ellen) and Paul Slawson and his nieces Emily Slawson and Olivia Slawson.
Dan was a wonderful brother and always available for his siblings and their family. He was a fun uncle and the most loyal of friends to the many he formed over the years. He was known for his unmatched sense of humor that left those around him laughing often. Above all he was a caring and loving son to his parents. In their later years he took care of all their needs, took them on their final trips and made each day a fun one.
Given his degrees and his passion for international travel it was no surprise he pursued a career in the import export business. After learning the ropes at Dorian Drake, Dan and a friend started DL Imports focused on facilitating business between the USA and the countries of South America. Looking to return to family in the Albany area to spend time primarily with his parents Dan worked as a legislative assistant for Featherstonhaugh, Wiley and Clyne, LLC. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to his next challenge as the head of Retail and Wholesale sales for the local family business Rad Soap. Dan met the family at a local farmers market where he fell in love with their products and saw an opportunity to help them grow their sales channels. More recently Dan went to work at the Honest Weight Co Op a client of Rad Soap.
Dan was a contrarian who questioned everything conventional and pursued deep research before accepting the popular view. His contrarian nature was only surpassed by his passion for the things and people that were most dear to him. These qualities made him a great friend and fierce advocate. He fought his illness with that same passion. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Community Hospice for their help and compassion in caring for Dan.
Visitation will be held at Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar from 10 am to 11:30 am immediately followed by a short service on Friday, November 21, 2025. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Community Hospice.
