Charles Van Wie, Jr.
"Red the Milkman”
Charles Frederick Van Wie Jr., 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2026 at home surrounded by the warmth, laughter and comfort of his loving family.
Born in Albany, Charles was the son of the late Charles and Ella Van Wie Sr. He devoted his life to the development of the successful business, Meadowbrook Farms Dairy, arising from the farm that had been in the family for generations.
Charles was a good man. He loved his country and worried for it of late. He loved his Sunday sermons and his God, and he greatly loved his wife Gaile.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gaile, his daughter Lisa Van Wie Hieser, his brother Robert Van Wie, his sister, Ruth Ellen Van Wie, and his son-in-law Charles Damp.
He is survived by his son Charles Van Wie, III (Lisa), and his daughters: Ruth Damp (Charles), Robin Manning (Michael), Suzan Weber (Frank) and Mary Van Wie (Paul Chiesa).
Charles is also survived by his loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition, Charles leaves behind special friends Larry Cole and Patty Miller.
Finally, Charles will be greatly missed by his feline companion Kiki.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the Bethlehem Community Church, 201 Elm Ave. Delmar
Funeral services will commence at the church at 12:00pm after the visitation.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations in Charles’ memory may be made to the Capital City Rescue Mission, 259 S. Pearl St. Albany, NY 12202.
