Charles J. Haslam, affectionately known as Jim, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side on Monday, July 13, 2026 from a long battle of Frontotemporal Dementia ( FTD). Born on May 24, 1961, in Albany, he was the son of the late Charles and Harriet Sleepack Haslam.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Helen Mae Haslam; his loving daughter Shannon Banahan, her husband TJ, and their children: Mason and Colton Banahan. His son, Charles J. Haslam, Jr. and his children Tylor and Logan Haslam. He is also survived by his biological brothers and sisters, who he connected with later in life as an adult.
Jim was a graduate of Bethlehem High School and earned his Bachelor's from the Environmental Science & Forestry School in Syracuse and was an arborist. He was the owner and operator of Haslam Tree Service in Slingerlands for over 37 years. Jim was an Eagle Scout and a true outdoorsman. The trees, mountains and lakes were his church where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and anything outdoors. He loved trips to his camp, "Haslam Point" on Pelican Lake in Orr, MN where he especially liked duck hunting with his best friend Mel.
Jim cherished spending time with family and friends and was always the life of the party. He loved a great barbeque and could always be found manning the grill with a Jack & Coke in his hand and country or 80's rock music playing in the background.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar.
There will be no formal service and a celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.
If desired, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration www.theaftd.org.
