Carol Abbot Smith

1926 — September 11, 2017

DELMAR – Carol Abbot Smith, 90, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.

Born in Albany on December 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Grace (Seymour) Lee.  A graduate of BCHS Class of 1944, Carol had worked for Farm Family Insurance in Glenmont for 22 years, retiring as a supervisor.  Upon her retirement, she travelled to Hawaii and Alaska with her husband.  They also enjoyed spending time at their family cabin.  She was an avid bowler for over 40 years, bowling three to four times a week in various leagues.  She enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to Foxwoods Casino.  She had been a member of the American Legion, Blanchard Post 1040 and was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her husband, Richard K. Smith and her son, William D. Smith.

She is survived by her sister, Virginia Lee Cook; niece, Linda Lee Jessup (Peter) and daughter-in-law, Joan Genther Smith.

A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 16 Elsmere Ave., Delmar, at 11 am on Friday, September 22, 2017.  Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Juvenile Arthritis Foundation.
