Carol Frances Jonas of Delmar passed on July 31 at the age of 90. She now lives eternally and joyfully in the presence of her heavenly Father.
Carol was born in Brooklyn, raised in Garden City, New York and graduated with a degree in Advertising Art and Design from SUNY Farmingdale. After her marriage she worked beside her husband as a bookkeeper for their garden shop and landscaping business. She also worked as office manager for two florist companies. She finished her career with the New York State Departments of Education and Tax and Finance.
Carol was generous with her love and time with her dear friends. She was very involved with and deeply committed to her community and her church. She served as a member of the Bethlehem Business Women’s Association as well as a Sunday School teacher for Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She also served as Vice President of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Albany Zone and as President and Vice President of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Ladies Guild. She held offices and was a member of the Delmar Progress Club. She led many bible study sessions and was an avid card player enjoying both with her friends.
Carol felt most at home swimming in the ocean and loved to travel. She also delighted in celebrating Halloween, organizing and hosting many memorable annual family pumpkin-carving contests. Of all her interests and attributes, one particularly stands out. Carol was a magnificent painter who specialized in the tromp l’oeil style featuring scenes of nature, community and celebration. Not only was she very talented but she was prolific. Her work produced heirlooms that will be passed down to generations.
She is predeceased by her parents Marie Kester Bath and Francis Stewart, and sisters Patricia and Linda. She is also predeceased by her former husband Jerry Jonas. She is survived by four loving and devoted daughters: Laura Jonas Bates (Randy), Kathy Jonas Papile (Tony), Susan Godell (Glenn) and Carolyn Jonas Accardi (John) and grandchildren Matthew Bolduc and Theresa Bates, Anna Papile, Jonas, Michaela and Olivia Godell and Ananda Accardi and great grandchildren Mabel and Henry Bolduc.
