Bruce C. Buckman, 82, of Delmar, NY, passed away peacefully at home of pulmonary fibrosis on April 4, 2026. His wife of 55 years, Lynn, was by his side.
Bruce was born in White Plains, NY to Charles and Elinor (née Platzer) Buckman.
A proud veteran, Bruce served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1966, specializing in aviation electronics. During his service aboard the USS Enterprise and USS America, he sailed around the world twice, stopping at ports in dozens of countries. He later graduated from SUNY Albany with a degree in history.
Bruce met his wife, Lynn Cipolli Buckman, at a college freshman welcoming dance. They made their home in Mountaindale, NY, for 42 years, where he was a longtime volunteer for the fire company and served on the Fallsburg Central School District Board of Education.
He worked for 34 years for the New York State Division of Parole, ultimately serving as Area Supervisor. Bruce seemed to know every bakery in NY, never arriving empty handed at the many parole offices he traveled to throughout the state.
Bruce was an early riser who looked forward to each day, often enjoying long walks or adventures with Lynn, classical music, bread baking and old movies. He was a voracious reader of fiction and history and a great conversationalist.
Bruce had a deep curiosity and respect for other cultures. In retirement, he and Lynn traveled the world and spent winters on the beach in South Carolina. Never passing up an opportunity to chat with a street vendor or local host, he formed long-standing friendships during his travels.
In addition to his wife, Lynn, he is survived by his daughter Sarah and son-in-law Andrew Lubin; his son Christopher and daughter-in-law Joanna Buckman; and his daughter Nora and son-in-law William Kern.
Bruce was cherished by grandchildren Sophia and Dahlia Lubin; Charles, Lucy, Elizabeth, and Elinor Buckman; and Hazel Kern, who brought him so much joy in his later years.
He is also survived by his sister Elinor and brother-in-law Gary Muller; his sister Candace and brother-in-law Robert Abdoo; a special cousin AJ Metzgar; and many nieces and nephews.
He loved spending time with his many old friends from Sullivan County, his retired Parole coworkers and the new friends he made in Delmar, NY.
Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the Spinney Club House, 6 Parker Mathusa Pl., Delmar, NY on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM.
