Barbara Ann Jasinski

May 6, 1934 — July 13, 2025

Selkirk

Barbara Ann Jasinski, affectionately known as "Bobbi," peacefully departed this life on July 13, 2025, in Selkirk, New York, just a short time after the passing of her beloved husband, Bob. Born on May 6, 1934, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Sikorski) Mehalak.

Following her graduation from Cathedral Academy, Barbara worked as a telephone operator. She dedicated many years to raising her two children before going back to school for secretarial training. She then embarked on a career that culminated in retiring from the United States Department of Agriculture (meat inspection).

Barbara enjoyed sewing, creating many articles of clothing over the years. She introduced her daughter to the art and passed her sewing machine to her grand-daughter. After retirement, she enjoyed many winters in Florida with her husband. Barbara loved to search for recipes in magazines and on the internet. She collected piles of recipes and would spend all day cooking them. She took eating a healthy and a balanced meal seriously, crediting her and Bob’s long life to good eating. It wasn’t until her last months that she discovered the joy of cookies and sweets, happy to take an outing with her daughter that included a stop at the Ice Cream Station on senior Thursdays, which aligned with her frugal nature.

Always looking forward to spring and the awakening of her flower gardens, the scent of lilacs and lily-of-the-valley would fill Barbara’s home when in bloom. Even during the downsizing to a home in Selkirk, she insisted on taking some favorite plants with her and shared many others with family and friends. Daffodils, peonies, cone flowers, daisies, bee balm, and rose of sharon all found a new garden under the American flag in the front yard, along with the marigolds, cosmos and zinnias she planted every year. She also discovered the columbine that was growing around the new house, delighting in the different colors, always wanting to share the plants or seeds. Bird watching, especially the hummingbirds were a passion. She kept her feeders filled outside her window to observe them, always commenting on which birds were visiting.

Private by nature, Barbara enjoyed the simple pleasures. She spent countless hours with her great-grandchildren Jacob and Beverly, reading to them and later listening to them read. Calls and visits from her grandson Stephan and his wife Stephanie were always anticipated and she so enjoyed Stephanie bringing corn bread. She treasured the water color flowers that her grand daughter Katie painted for her and delighted in hearing of Katie’s accomplishments.

Barbara is survived by her children Linda Jasinski (Ted Simons) and Stanley Jasinski (Ann). She was “Bobbi” to her grandchildren Stephan Jasinski (Stephanie), Ben Jasinski (Krista), Zachery Jasinski (Maria) and Katerina Simons, as well as her 5 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, sister, Rita Vincek (George) and brother John Mehalak. Survived by sisters Dorothy Hahn (late Robert), Janet Murawski (John), and Delores Slezak (Julian). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara wanted to leave a special thanks to those that took the time to help, care and visit her in her last months of her life, including the Hospice nurses, especially Nicole who brought joy with her every visit.

According to Barbara’s wishes, there will be no services or memorial. Interment at the convenience of the family.
