Anthony Spadaro, Jr.

DELMAR - Anthony Spadaro, Jr., 95, of Delmar, passed away on May 27, 2018 after a brief illness. Tony was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Patricia Egan Spadaro in July 2010. His survivors include his daughters, Nancy S. Bielawa of Glenmont and Tracy S. Maynard of Newburyport, MA, grandsons Austin A. Bielawa and Michael C. Maynard, and granddaughter Katherine M. Bielawa. Son-in-law, Bob Bielawa, earns special mention for his years of friendship and care-assistance, especially during Tony's final days. Born in Albany in 1923, Tony attended C.B.A. in Albany and in 1942, at age 19, enlisted in the Army. He was assigned to the 103rd Coast Artillery Training Battalion on Monterey Bay, Camp McQuaide, CA. There, he lucked out. Because of his C.B.A. military training, he was made an acting Corporal and assisted Sergeants in training recruits. During WWII, his outfit was attached to Patton's third Army in the Rhineland campaign. In 1946, he joined the U.S.A.R. in the summer (while still a bachelor) and was on the general staff at Camp Drum (now Fort Drum) as post training aids officer. He later served as a Major in the Third Area Command, New York State Guard. Tony spent his entire career in the automobile business, most notably for Marsh Hallman Chevrolet. He was well-respected among his peers, competitors, & customers, and was referred to as a gentleman of the car business, a trait which he felt was responsible for his success. He was also gifted with charm & a talent for conversation. Tony's daughters attribute their strong work ethic to the example he set. His sole priority was to provide a wonderful life for his family through hard and honest work which he did in spades. Besides boasting about his family and his Italian heritage, among Tony's interests were classic movies, big band music, & the NY Yankees. He was also a passionate animal lover, avid reader and writer (who was proud of his large vocabulary), and supporter of many charities. He was honored to serve as an usher at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar from 1963 until he died. Tony was a proud combat veteran, a former member of the Reserves Officers Association of the United States, the V.F.W., and the American Legion. He looked forward to reuniting with his beloved parents, wife and many friends along with his treasured Labradors who've passed. Tony will be missed deeply every day by his family & friends and his current Lab pal, Major. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, June 3rd from 3 to 6 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 am Monday, June 4th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
