Anne Roche Malone

1934 — March 26, 2023

Anne Roche Malone, a longtime Delmar resident, passed away peacefully on March 26th surrounded by family.  She was born on January 16, 1934 to Mary and Leo Roche.  She was a Saint James and Holy Names graduate with the prestigious award for science.  She was a mother of 10 children, a swimmer, a lover of gardening, poetry, all types of birds, and going for long drives.

She could spy beauty in the things that others missed and overlooked.  A mentor who guided anyone who came into her orbit, and converted her kitchen table into her ‘office’ for anyone who needed help. She put herself through Mildred Elley Business School at age 19, and her first job was at IBM at the age of 22.  At 24, she married Al Malone.  She returned to work at Mulllen’s where her familiar face was a welcome presence.  She got her driver’s license at the age of 39 and took on real estate at the age of 50.  There was nothing she couldn’t do. She was always fashionable, friendly and solid as a rock even on her toughest days.  Her milestones are numerous, but her commitment to family rose above all.

Anne is survived by her sister and best friend, Bella McCarroll, and her children, grandchildren and great grandchild: Theresa Malone (grandson Marcus), John Malone (wife Corinna, grandsons Jake and Nick), Pat Malone (wife Diane, grandchildren Dan, Lauren and Joe, great granddaughter Eliana), Steve Malone (wife Chris, grandchildren Avery and Colin), Joe Malone (grandchildren Kieran and Aubrie), Mary Allen (granddaughter Alyssa), Andy Malone, Paul Malone (wife Whitney, granddaughters Lavinia and Vivienne), Jean Winkler (husband Joe), Chris Quatraro (husband Matt, grandsons George and Leo).

She was predeceased by her late husband, Alfred Dirolf Malone in 2012, a granddaughter, Rae Nicole in 1997, her parents, Mary (Geoco) Roche and Leo P. Roche, her 2 sisters, Mary Theresa Hooper, Catherine Beigel and her brother, Peter Roche.

Anne’s family want to thank Thor Sandwick, members of the Chadwick community and her bridge partners for being such wonderful friends and companions. Our thanks also go to the medical professionals who were so supportive as she made her final journey: Dr. Baselice and Sue at Community Care Physicians, Dr. Garbo, Yassah, Ellen and Christine at NYOH, and Caitlyn from Hospice.

Friends and family are invited to attend the calling hours on Thursday, March 30th from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar and a Funeral Mass on Friday, March 31st at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or another charity of your choice.
