Amelia Klein

1957 — January 14, 2022

Amy Klein, 65, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, January 14, 2022. She was born and raised in Kings Point, Long Island, and graduated from SUNY Albany and Fordham Law School.  Amy was admitted to the NYS Bar in 1991, practiced law for 27 years, and retired from Bond, Schoeneck, and King after over 21 years. She served on the board of the Legal Aid Society of NE New York for 9 years, 2 of them as Board chair.  Amy was passionate about justice, even to the point of getting arrested for civil disobedience during a protest march in Albany.

Amy was a woman of strong faith and strong convictions, which she put into action through everyday efforts to help build a better world including support for social and economic justice. She was a founding member of Journey UCC, and a supporter of Koinonia Health Care and of Engeye. As a volunteer coordinator, Amy was instrumental in Journey’s commitment to Family Promise.  She was adored by all of the guest families with whom she spent time, and provided friendship and care during their time of homelessness.

Amy had a wide range of talents and interests - she was artistic, loved designing and decorating, supported local arts/artists and loved the search for unique items. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. She was an avid reader and a lover of music. She loved adventures, traveling, and experiencing new sights and cultures. Amy cherished her friends and maintained strong bonds with friends made through all stages of her life - childhood, college, work life, church, and neighbors.

Amy is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Gunty; her son, Alex Klein (Marli) of Voorheesville; her beautiful granddaughter, Phoebe Klein; her daughter, Jessica of Tampa; her step-sons Patrick and Ethan Gunty; her brothers Robert (Sue), Richard (Joanne), and
