Alice N. Gray, 98, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, in the Hudson Valley. Born April 21, 1927, in Rutland, Vermont, to Frank and Mary Nemara, she was raised alongside her sister, Francis, in a close-knit, hardworking family.
A 1949 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Alice built a dynamic life rooted in curiosity, elegance, and resilience. She married John Alan Gray in 1950, and together they raised two children, James Randall Gray (deceased) and Cynthia Lynn Phelps.
Alice shared a uniquely close bond with her daughter. For nearly twenty years, they ran a successful antique business together, specializing in early 20th-century jewelry. Alice was captivated by the history and craftsmanship of each piece, believing that, like love, true treasures find their way to us through time and chance.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lynn; grandchildren, Andrea Gray (and her husband, Stefano), Kimberly Parratt (and her husband, Tom), and Sean Gray (and his fiancée, Laura); and great-grandson, Neil Parratt. Alice will be remembered for her grace, wit, and the joy she found in every facet of life.
Alice’s funeral service will be held Monday, July 28, 2025 at 6:00pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. Delmar.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 6:00pm prior to the service.
